Denim + Letterpress v2

Monday, September 21st, 2009

A while back we printed some cards for Kiya Babzani, and his wife, Demitra, decided she wanted some fancy letterpress cards of her own. Well it seems she has 1-up’d her husband unfortunately. We really enjoyed seeing this cards coming to life, as leprachauns riding unicorns paraded around the studio finishing the tasks like hand painting the edges red, and then tearing each label, then applying them one by one to each card. Okay, so maybe there weren’t leprachauns or unicorns, but don’t tell anyone as our reputation would be ruined.

We designed these cards for Demitra while trying to reflect her love (obsession) that she shares with her husband for denim. We printed a denim pattern over both sides of the cards in a nice contrasting blue, then printed the logos in metallic silver so they really stand out. The labels were then printed in metallic silver and red. The process was so worth it though, as the resulting card blows your mind. Oh, did I mention these were also custom duplexed paper from French Paper Co?

Slip & Soda Letterpress Business Cards

Friday, September 18th, 2009

When we first heard from Slip & Soda, a ceramics company in New Mexico, asking about some new business cards, we instantly loved the look they were going for. It was clean, classic, and it was square. The logo translates perfectly into letterpress with nice thick fluid letters and those wonderful small little circles. We printed these cards on 111lb 20% cotton stock. It provides a nice firm impression, with a beautiful texture over the whole paper. We pantone matched the inks where we printed 1 color on the front, and then 1 color with a blind impression on the back.

We really enjoy working with other designers to print their artwork. If anybody has a design they might want quoted for letterpress printing, please feel free to ask! We are here to help and with our obsession for design, we love to see what other designers can come up with.

Vertical business cards are the new black

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

Commercial Real Estate agent Eric Rafia e-mailed us with a pretty sweet business card design he already had and said ‘I want something new’. On the first reply e-mail, my finger tapped the ‘A’ key after his name, and I hit send before I noticed it. Yes, I called Eric a woman right off the bat without noticing it. Luckily he was a good sport and didn’t run off. We worked with him and redesigned his business card and we think we did a pretty good job. We flipped the standard orientation on its side which created a unique card that people will certainly remember. He really liked the ‘blind impression’ he had seen on a few other cards, and he wanted that tied into his own card. We printed his cards with 1 color and then 1 blind impression on the oh-so-lovely Crane Lettra in the extra sturdy 220# weight in Flo White. This allowed for an amazing sculptural impression without any show through on the back of the card.

Simple and Clean Letterpress Cards

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

Larry Wong, a Structural Engineer, came to us seeking a simple, clean, and minimalist letterpress business card. However, he came to appreciate the idea of a blind impression. Which is where we print a form without ink. The blind impression adds a great touch of detail to his business card. Bringing it just over minimal type classification.

The cards are 2 color ink with a blind impression on 110lb Lettra flo white.
